About our Internet Links
The Library values the Internet as an information source. Much online content, however, is incomplete, out-of-date, unreliable, offensive, or otherwise unhelpful to searches for high-quality information. In order to provide quick and easy access to high-quality electronic resources, the Library identifies sites of exceptional educational or recreational merit, arranges them in a structured way, and provides keyword access. The sites are selected by experienced library staff, and must comply with our technical standards. They are regularly reviewed, and efforts are made to eliminate discontinued links or pages whose content has changed or deteriorated. Suggestions from the public are welcomed, and are carefully evaluated before decisions are made.
Free Internet access is available in the Library, and staff assist users to make the best possible use of the service, in accordance with normal reference practice. Library research charges may apply if staff assistance is required for protracted or repeated information searches (further information is available on request). Users are encouraged to develop Internet skills, and free tuition in provided in formal sessions, for which pre-registration is required. Printouts cost 20c per page, payable at the time of collection.
