Boreham Collection

A selection of the religious works, both fiction and non-fiction, of F.W. Boreham (1871-1959) is housed in a specially made display cabinet in the Mosgiel Library.
Duplicate copies, where they exist, are in the McNab collection. Both these collections are reference only, however a few titles are also available for borrowing. Please ask any library staff if you need a hand to locate these.
Frank William Boreham was born in Tunbridge Wells, England in 1871. Soon after his arrival in London, at the age of seventeen, to work as a clerk he became a fervently evangelical Christian. He entered Pastors’ (now Spurgeon’s) College and after graduating in 1895 he sailed to New Zealand to become Mosgiel’s first Baptist minister.
His fiancée, Stella Cottee, joined him soon afterwards and they were married in Kaiapoi. The couple’s first two children were born in Mosgiel.
Boreham worked hard on his ministry and preaching skills, read insatiably and began to write. He soon became a regular contributor to the Taieri Advocate and the Otago Daily Times; editor of the New Zealand Baptist; and author of books.
1n 1906 Boreham left Mosgiel for Australia, but his first parish had made a lasting impression on him and he was to use material from his Mosgiel years in many of his future writings.
